CIE 2019 Washington DC

CIE 2019, the 29th Session of the CIE, Washington DC, June 14 - 22, 2019

The Session is an important event, which will bring together the international membership of the CIE, as well as other experts and stakeholders in the fields of light and lighting.

It is our great pleasure to invite you to join us for the activities at the 29th Quadrennial Session of the International Commission on Illumination (CIE), hosted by the United States National Committee of the CIE. The Session, which will be held from June 14 to 22, 2019, in Washington DC, is an important event, which will bring together the international membership of the CIE, as well as other experts and stakeholders in the fields of light and lighting, that is vision and colour, measurement, lighting applications, photobiology and image technology.  It offers an opportunity to meet colleagues from around the world, to share knowledge both theoretical and practical, and to contribute to the work of CIE Technical Committees.

This Quadrennial Session involves a combination of three distinct aspects of the CIE:

Administrative meetings held from June 14 to June 16, which mark a turning point, at which the CIE Board of Administration brings on new members, and at which representatives from each CIE member country meet at the General Assembly to set the course of the organization for the next four years.  There will also be ample social time to connect with colleagues and friends both old and new.

A three-day conference held from June 17 to June 19, for the exchange of technical knowledge and results of new research, through papers, presentations and posters.

Three days of Technical Committee meetings held from June 20 to June 22, in which experts from each of the CIE Divisions work on the development of CIE International Standards and Technical Reports;

While vitally important for CIE members, this is also a precious opportunity for anyone with an interest in light and lighting, from whatever branch of art or science, from academia or industry, to come together and discuss their interests with like-minded people from around the globe.

We hope that you will join us in Washington DC at the Wardman Park Marriott to celebrate the 29th Quadrennial Session of the CIE.

For further information and detailed arrangements, please visit the Conference Website, either directly at washington2019.cie.co.at, through the CIE homepage at www.cie.co.at, or the US national committee website at www.cie-usnc.org.

We look forward to welcoming you at the CIE Session in Washington DC in June 2019.

29th Session of the CIE - CIE 2019 – Website Open

Please be sure to check the website for the 29th Session from time to time to be updated on the various programmes. Also look out for our next newsletter in the coming week, when the opening of the abstract submission for CIE 2019 will be announced. But first…

Abstract Submission System is Open – deadline December 21, 2018

You are invited to submit abstracts summarizing the contents of your intended papers dealing with new results in the field of light and lighting. The subjects of the papers should be relevant to the work and terms of reference of the six CIE Divisions, their Technical Committees and the CIE Research Priorities.

Please note that contributions previously published elsewhere will not be accepted. Papers dealing with questions of direct concern to the work of the Divisions will get priority.

PROCEDURE FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Contributions can only be submitted electronically: Abstract Submission.

Your abstract must be submitted in English and the text for your submission is limited to 1000 words (there should be no references included in your abstract). There is no requirement regarding the minimum length of an abstract, but keep in mind that your abstract should have enough substance for an adequate evaluation by the reviewers. Based on this information the International Scientific Committee will make a decision on the acceptance of the paper and on whether it will be given orally in a session, or as a poster presented at the stand.

The CIE abstract template file must be used for your submission. It is provided on the abstract submission page or you can download it here.

The submissions must arrive at the Central Bureau via the Abstract Submission System by December 21, 2018.

Authors will be informed of the decision of the International Scientific Committee by February 19, 2019.

The authors selected (or one of their co-authors) have to register for the conference to present their paper by the early registration deadline April 1, 2019. After the acceptance of their papers authors will be provided with information indicating format and deadlines of the written contributions for inclusion in the Proceedings, Upon submitting their full papers for the conference proceedings authors will have the opportunity to request that their papers be made open access for a fee – more details on this option will be provided later.

If you have questions regarding the submission criteria or questions about the meeting, please contact the CIE Central Bureau at ciecb[at]cie.co[dot]at.
