We are pleased and excited to announce that the CIE 2019 Keynote Speaker will be Nobel Laureate Dr William D. Phillips. Dr Phillips received the 1997 Nobel Prize in Physics “for development of methods to cool and trap atoms with laser light”. He shared the honour with Steven Chu of Stanford University, USA and Claude Cohen-Tannoudji of the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, France. Dr Phillips will give a presentation on the historic revision of the international system of units (SI) – which of course includes the candela.
The CIE 2019 International Scientific Committee (ISC) is also delighted that Dr Luc Schlangen and Dr Kevin van den Wymelenberg have accepted invitations to be Invited Speakers.
Dr Schlangen is currently working in the Signify Lighting Applications research group in the Netherlands. He is actively contributing to various standardization activities within CEN, DIN, CIE and ISO. Dr Schlangen’s presentation will be on a CIE hot topic «Impact of the new CIE International Standard CIE S 026». Dr Schlangen was the Chair of the CIE Joint Technical Committee that prepared this new CIE International Standard, as such this presentation is certain to put a clear perspective on the development and use of this new standard.
